SIBU: The success of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in this town relies on the joint efforts of the government, the private sector and the local community, said Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Chairman, Clarence Ting Ing Horh.

Ting emphasised that everyone, from residents to businesses, must come together to create a sustainable future for the town.

“We cannot work in isolation. To truly embrace and implement the SDGs, all parties – the government, the private sector, and the community – need to cooperate,” he said at the Earth Day event held at Permai Lake View here on Sunday.

He stressed the importance of small daily actions in contributing to environmental sustainability and called for a grassroots movement to raise awareness and take action in daily life to protect the planet.

“Earth Day is not just a once-a-year event; it is a reminder of our collective responsibility to protect the environment for future generations.

“Among the key initiatives promoted were reducing plastic waste, improving waste management, and promoting recycling,” he said.

Ting assured that SMC is committed to working with the community to implement these initiatives and ensure lasting change.

Meanwhile, regarding Permai Lake View, Ting said that the upgrading project will include the construction of new car-parking facilities and the upgrading of pedestrian walkways.

Therefore, he urged the public to collaborate with the council in maintaining public amenities, and to report any vandalism incidents to ensure these spaces remain clean and safe for everyone.
