WASHINGTON, United States (US): The combined wealth of the nearly 200 US citizens included in the index of the world’s wealthiest people is estimated at approximately USD7 trillion, four times the figure from a decade ago, Bloomberg reported today, citing data from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Furthermore, according to US Federal Reserve estimates, at least another USD18 trillion is held by the wealthiest 0.1 per cent of the US population, the report said.
In total, this group of the richest citizens comprises about 136,000 families, with an average net worth of USD184 million, the report said, adding that they prefer to remain out of the spotlight. Nevertheless, there are reportedly signs that their wealth is growing at a pace nearly matching that of the wealthiest billionaires.
Bloomberg cited economists, Owen Zidar and Eric Zwick, who said that the typical path to join the ranks of the wealthiest Americans leads through law and consulting firms, medical facilities, construction companies, and manufacturing enterprises.
The typical wealthy owner of such a business is 62 years old, the economists added. – BERNAMA-SPUTNIK/RIA NOVOSTI
