KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering youth and women in leadership, emphasising their crucial role in shaping Sarawak’s future.

Deputy Premier and PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the party had established a new youth wing, allowing young members to participate as observers in the upcoming 16th PBB Triennial General Meeting (TGM) assembly as part of their leadership grooming process.

He stressed that while academic qualifications were valuable, leadership was cultivated through experience and mentorship from seasoned politicians.

“Wisdom doesn’t come solely from education but from experience. That is why we want our youth to understand history so they can look to the future in a structured way while learning from the past,” Awang Tengah said.

He said this in a special interview at his office in Wisma Sumber Alam here today (Thursday).

He also highlighted the role of women in leadership, acknowledging the growing presence of women in high-ranking political and administrative positions, including CEOs in the private sector and top government officials.

“This is what we want our youth to learn because our future depends on them. If we want to see the future, we must look at the youth of today. That is why it is crucial,” he said.

Looking ahead, he underscored the need for digital and technological literacy among future leaders, cautioning that those who failed to embrace advancements such as AI would be left behind.

“This is what our youth must recognise. We want to enhance power and leadership but training leaders is not easy.

“However, I believe that with awareness and commitment from our youth, we can achieve this. That is why we are bringing them in — this is a platform for them to learn. Through this process, they will be equipped to become the next generation to continue our struggle,” he said.

As the convention also involved party elections, he called for unity among members, emphasising that both winners and those not elected had roles to play in strengthening the party and serving the people.

“PBB must remain strong and stable because the people place their hopes in us. As the backbone of the Sarawak government, we must build a better future.

“We want to see tomorrow better than today. This is our shared struggle and responsibility,”said Awang Tengah.
