Committee plans relief for flood victims

BINTULU: The Bintulu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) is planning to provide immediate assistance to flood victims here after witnessing the damage caused by the disaster.

Deputy Resident of Bintulu Division, Abang Zainuddin Abang Turkey, said that relief measures will be discussed during the upcoming disaster committee meeting to determine the most effective methods for assisting the affected residents.

“Based on the situation we observed today, we will bring this issue up in the disaster committee meeting to plan the aid that will be provided to the flood victims,” he said.

He said this while surveying the badly affected area in Kampung Kemunting, where some residents were affected by land subsidence.

Abang Zainuddin also urged residents to be patient and cooperate with the authorities in dealing with the flood disaster, which has affected all parts of Bintulu.

“We understand the challenges faced, and we are working to plan the best course of action to alleviate the residents’ burden,” he added.

He also advised the public to exercise caution regarding the unpredictable weather conditions.

“Although the weather is expected to improve, we must remain vigilant about river conditions to prevent similar incidents from occurring,” he said.

He reiterated that the Bintulu DDMC remains committed to ensuring that all forms of assistance are provided to flood victims as quickly as possible to ease their burden.
