MIRI: A groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing community fire preparedness has brought together 10 villages and longhouses within the Community fire preparedness boosted in Senadin constituency.
The programme, inaugurated during a training ceremony at Dewan Dato Permaisuri, Permyjaya, marks a significant step in fostering disaster response capabilities among local communities.
The villages involved include Kampung Muhibah Kuala Baram, Kampung Sealine Atas, Kampung Senadin Jaya, Kampung Batu Satu Kuala Baram, Kampung Pengkalan Lutong, Kampung Tudan Phase 2A, Kampung Tudan Phase 4 & 5, Kampung Masjid Kuala Baram, Rumah Bangau Kuala Baram, and Tudan Desaras Phase 6.
Sarawak Transport Minister and Senadin assemblyman Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin stressed the importance of the initiative during the programme’s launch.
“The implementation of this programme will ensure that community fire preparedness in the Senadin area continues to improve. It is essential for increasing efficiency and enhancing the ability of community members to respond effectively to emergencies and disasters,” he stated.
The programme, which features a Community Fire Competition, offers hands-on training to participants and promotes collaboration between community firefighters and the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department Zone 6 (Miri), particularly the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station.
Despite being categorised as a Class D station, the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station has been instrumental in organising community-based activities in the Senadin constituency.
Senior Fire Superintendent 1 Ismaidi Ismail, head of Zone 6 (Miri), highlighted the station’s critical role in safeguarding key national assets in the area, including facilities managed by Petros, Petronas, Sarawak Shell, MCOT, and Miri Port.
Henry, the head of the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station, underscored the significance of building strong community ties to improve disaster readiness and response.
The event marked a significant milestone in strengthening the relationship between the community and emergency services, ensuring a safer and more resilient future for the Senadin constituency.
