KUCHING: Many creative ways are being used to help those in need.

Charity runs have become increasingly popular among the community as a way to contribute to targeted groups.

In line with this, RevRun and RR Drill Running Club will be organising the Sarawak Hope Run 2025, scheduled to take place at Padang Merdeka, here on Dec 21.

Run director Albert Tan Sing Kai said the event is open to all age groups, with participants covering a distance of 5KM.

“Registration can be done through the official QR code, with three categories and fees set at RM28, RM38 and RM55.”

Tan said this during a press conference at Rentap Muay Thai Gym, here on Tuesday (Nov 11).

Also present at the press conference were Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED), Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, and several members of the organising committee.

Tan said the charity run is supported and co-organised by MYSED, Rentap Muay Thai Gym, Kuching Happy Runners Club, and various other agencies.

He added that the event aims to raise funds to be channelled to several charitable homes.

“The proceeds collected will be distributed to identified charitable organisations, including Rumah Kanak-kanak Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah, PERKATA, Children’s Wish Society Malaysia, and the Autistic Association of Kuching.”

He further mentioned that the organisers are targeting to raise RM50,000 from the public through this programme.

Meanwhile, Gerald commended the organising committee for their efforts in holding the charity run.

He said it is an excellent initiative in helping those in need.

“Our ministry fully supports this charity run and would like to thank all involved.

“We hope the community will come forward to participate not only to ensure the success of the event but also to contribute donations towards the cause.”

At the same event, Gerald also announced a personal contribution of RM1,000 in support of the charity run.

He also expressed his belief that participants would benefit from the run by improving their personal health.

“It’s a fun way to stay healthy, especially when done together with family and friends.”
