KABONG: Community involvement is key to Sarawak’s commitment to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050, said Kabong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Chee Kadir.

He said the state’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 had outlined three pillars, namely economic prosperity, social inclusivity and environmental sustainability, with local participation essential to realise these goals.

“Sarawak is committed to achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050 through renewable energy such as green hydrogen, carbon trading and the circular economy.

“This programme not only raises environmental awareness but also strengthens cooperation between the government, agencies and the local community,” he said when officiating at the Environmental Awareness Programme at Rumah Bujang Empayang Baruh here recently.

The two-day event, held from Sept 12 to 13, was jointly organised by the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak and the village JKKK.

It featured gotong-royong (community clean up), recycling and waste management talks, colouring contests and a used cooking oil collection drive.

Agencies including the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Betong, Saratok District Health Office, Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC), Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (PEMADAM) and Kabong District Office also mounted exhibitions.
