“Through your professionalism, integrity and sense of responsibility, you deliver timely and accurate information, reflect public voices, and uphold transparency and accountability.

“Without the media, a progressive, informed and compassionate society would not be possible,” he said in his speech during the 2026 Media Chinese New Year dinner organised by the World Federation of Fuzhou Associations Ltd here on Thursday (Feb 5).

He thanked members of the media for their dedication and commitment over the years, describing them as partners in advancing social development, community building and charitable efforts.

“The media has always been at the forefront. Your reports give voice to those in need, highlight meaningful initiatives and amplify positive values, allowing good deeds to inspire greater impact,” he added.

The dinner, attended by more than 100 media practitioners from Kuching, was also graced by Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai, and World Federation of Fuzhou Associations Ltd president Datuk Seri Lau Wei Kiong.
