SIBU: President of Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, has warned that immediate action will be taken against any tribal and community leader (KMKK) found abusing their position for personal gain.
He said grassroots leaders need to realise that their role is to look after the welfare of the people, not to seek profit or personal gain.
“If there is a KMKK who uses their position for their own gain, I will not hesitate to take action, including dismissal,” he stated at the PDP Dudong Branch Appreciation Dinner held at the Durin basketball court near here on Monday (Dec 30).
According to Tiong who is Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, solving the people’s problems must be implemented immediately through close cooperation from all parties.
“As the party president, I want to see our leaders truly serving the people, not themselves,” he said.
Tiong, who is also the Dudong State Assemblyman (ADUN) also called on KMKK to remain united, honest and sincere in carrying out their duties.
He stressed that KMKK should not use their position as tuai rumah, penghulu or pemanca to show status or self-interest, but rather focus on sincere service to the people.
“KMKK must be united and honest in their judgment. Don’t misuse your position just to show that you are high-ranking. Your duty is to serve the people sincerely,” he added.
Tiong who reminded KMKK to regularly go out to interact with the local community, listen to the needs of the residents and identify problems and development needs.
The ceremony was also attended by PDP Senior Vice Presidents, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh and Datuk Rolland Duat Jubin as well as PDP Dudong Branch Chairman, Datuk Teo Boon Siew.
