DARO: The role of community leaders and tribal chiefs (KMKK) as well as Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) is crucial as the main link between the government and local communities, particularly in disseminating information, coordinating community development, and addressing public welfare issues at the village and longhouse levels.
Daro assemblyman Dr Safiee Ahmad said the effectiveness of these roles must be strengthened through mastery of technological knowledge and digital skills in line with current developments.
According to him, the ability to use technology is especially important in the preparation of reports, data management and the delivery of information to relevant authorities in a more efficient and organised manner.
“Mastery of technology not only enhances administrative efficiency, but also ensures that documentation and reporting are carried out systematically, transparently and effectively at the grassroots level,” he said during the closing ceremony of the Leadership Empowerment Workshop for KMKK and JKKK Secretaries of Daro and Matu Districts 2025 held here recently.
Dr Safiee added that community leaders must continuously enhance their knowledge and skills, including in leadership and administration, so that all community-related matters can be managed more professionally and effectively.
Meanwhile, he said the annual programme aims to empower grassroots leadership to be more responsive and capable of delivering services to the people in line with the Sarawak government’s development aspirations, which emphasise efficient and inclusive governance.
He explained that such workshops should be continued as they not only provide exposure to leadership and administrative aspects, but also strengthen KMKK and JKKK’s understanding of the state government’s policies and direction.
He added that the same programme had previously been implemented in the Daro constituency involving Sibu and Meradong districts, while its organisation in Daro and Matu districts completes the ongoing efforts to strengthen community leadership throughout the constituency.
At the same event, he also presented a contribution of RM20,000 to the Daro District Festive Committee to support the implementation of various community and cultural activities in the district.
