LUBOK ANTU: Community leaders have been urged to take a more active role in guiding and inspiring the younger generation.
Batang Ai assemblyman cum Sarawak International Trade, Industry and Investment Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, emphasised that their influence extends far beyond merely acting as intermediaries between the government and the people.
He made this statement at a ‘Leaders with the People’ event held at Rumah Embuas in Nanga Jengin today.
“Community leaders must serve as inspirations for the youth, not obstacles.
“It is crucial to avoid discouraging young people from pursuing leadership roles with negative sentiments,” he said.
Mussen also highlighted the need for bold, visionary young talents to continue the leadership legacy and drive the development of Batang Ai.
He added that progress in the district depends not only on physical infrastructure but also on human capital, particularly the youth, who play a pivotal role in transforming society.
In recognition of the efforts of local leaders, Mussen announced substantial financial support for the region.
It included RM15,000 for the Longhouse Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) under the Minor Rural Projects (MRP), RM5,000 for the Nanga Women’s Association (Gerempung Indu Nanga), and RM100,000 for the JKKK under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).
During the event, Mussen also expressed his gratitude to Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) for its contribution to the Batang Ai Education Fund that provides assistance to students from the Resettlement Scheme Phases 1 and 2.
