KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Community Leadership Integrity Module (MIKM) should be expanded throughout the constituency as it has proven to deliver a positive impact on grassroots leadership, says Rural and Regional Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Rubiah Wang.

Rubiah, who is also Kota Samarahan Member of Parliament, said the initiative provided direct exposure and guidance to community leaders, penghulus and village chiefs in the division.

“I have received feedback that many community leaders attended and supported this course to ensure its success.

“In line with the state government’s vision of building a society with strong integrity, MIKM serves as a strategic initiative to strengthen governance culture and ethical leadership at the community level,” she said.

She said this when officiating at the MIKM Course Level 1 and Level 2 for Kota Samarahan District at the Salcra Conference Hall on Friday.

Rubiah stressed that MIKM was not just a theoretical training programme but part of a larger movement to embed values of trust, responsibility and accountability in society.

As such, she expressed confidence that the comprehensive module would complement the state government’s efforts to create a resilient grassroots leadership ecosystem.

“Community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) are the best eyes and ears to ensure that every project and development programme is implemented effectively,” she added.

To date, 18 MIKM Level 1 series and six MIKM Level 2 series have been conducted across Sarawak, involving more than 1,100 KMKK participants.

Rubiah asserted this achievement not only reflected the government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots leadership but also its confidence that meaningful change in society begins with values at the community level.
