KUCHING: Community-focused festive programmes in Sarawak strengthen the state’s social ecosystem.

Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said programmes like Kamboh Eh Raya 2026 help ensure that communities are not forgotten during festive seasons.

These initiatives, she said, create opportunities for various groups in society, including children, the elderly and single mothers, to experience the festive spirit.

“Programmes like this certainly bring benefits and in Sarawak, we have many kinds of programmes during festive seasons like this.

“They are lively because there are always organisations that arrange programmes for certain groups, for the public, for the elderly, for children and for single mothers.

“For us, this creates a very good ecosystem for the state of Sarawak during festive seasons as people are able to feel the festive joy because they are not forgotten,” she said.

She said this when met by reporters when officiating the Kamboh Eh Raya!’at Plaza Merdeka here.

She added that such efforts are not limited to Hari Raya but are also carried out during other major festivities including Chinese New Year and Gawai Dayak.

Fatimah said that the spirit of inclusivity and harmony during festive seasons contributes to Sarawak’s strong sense of social well-being, where people from different backgrounds celebrate together in peace.

“This is what I mentioned earlier, it contributes to our well-being index, a high level of well-being and social well-being.

“We hope that when we conduct the social well-being index study again this year, it will once again show a high index,” she said.

As part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility initiatives, Plaza Merdeka working alongside Babyshop, Wawa Playground and The Waterfront hotel presented a RM10,000 contribution to Pejabat Kebajikan Masyarakat Bahagian Samarahan (PKMBS) to support underprivileged children in Samarahan.

Also present were Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman, Plaza Merdeka managing director Datuk Steve Ng, and Executive Director of Plaza Merdeka Datin Anriza Wong Cordero.
