SEBUYAU: Newly completed facilities are set to improve the livelihoods of residents in Kampung Sagu.
Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, said providing rural areas with complete basic infrastructure remained a key agenda of the government.
“We have long been sowing the seeds, and now is the time for us to reap the harvest,” he said.
Julaihi officiated at the opening of three community projects in Kampung Sagu during a Leader-With-the-People gathering at Dewan Kampung Sagu here on Tuesday (Sept. 22).
The three community projects were a new community hall, a futsal field and a water pipe connection to the main grid.
The community hall, built at a cost of RM350,000, comes equipped with a badminton court while the futsal field cost RM200,000.
On the water pipe project, Julaihi said Kampung Sagu had received its turn to be connected to the main water supply grid, with a 6.2-km pipeline laid from the main grid to the village at a cost of RM1.7 million, fully borne by the government.
He said the connection was part of continuing efforts to supply treated, clean water to all areas of Sarawak, including Sebuyau district.
He added that the facilities were not exclusive to Kampung Sagu residents, and that neighbouring communities were also welcome to use the hall and futsal field.
Julaihi also noted that electricity supply had been connected to the new community hall, describing it as another basic facility provided by the state government, alongside road access that already reaches the village.
