KUCHING: Community and village leaders are urged to fulfill their responsibilities at the village level to ensure that local communities do not fall behind in the wave of development, particularly in government-led initiatives.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department for Law and MA63, Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, who is also Samariang assemblywoman, emphasised the crucial role of community leaders in bridging the gap between the government and the people.

“I hope they will continue to engage with the grassroots, go to the ground to observe village conditions and assist the community to ensure that villages in the Samariang constituency remain prosperous.

“The role of community and village leaders is significant as they act as a vital link in conveying government policies and initiatives to the people,” she stressed.

She said this when speaking to reporters at the presentation of appointment letters for community and village leaders in Samariang held at the Samariang Service Centre yesterday.

At the ceremony, approximately 14 community and village leaders from the Samariang constituency received their new appointment letters, which were officially handed over by Sharifah Hasidah.

Commenting on the appointments, Hasidah stressed the importance of integrity and strong leadership qualities among those entrusted with the roles.

“It is crucial for them to demonstrate strong leadership qualities. I hope they will lead with patience and resilience.

“Being a leader is not easy; there are many challenges and various issues to address,” she said.

Earlier, the event also witnessed the presentation of a RM5,000 grant to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).
