KUCHING: A computer programmer can now work  in a village in Long Lama, thanks to the high speed quality internet connectivity in the district.

In a press release, Sarawak Multimedia Authority said Lim Sie Hui, 31, who hailed from the district, obtained her bachelor’s degree in computer science in multimedia from University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) way back in 2017.

Thanks to the stable internet connection in her village beginning last year, Lim is able to pursue her passion as a professional computer programmer.

“I develop computer programming, websites and online gaming for smartphones according to the customers’ demands.

“I also develop education apps for university students and I have received a positive response,” she told SMA.

Lim is currently pursuing her master’s degree in multimedia computer at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

“Since the internet connectivity here is stable, I did not face any sort of problem throughout my studies,” she said.

Lim added that with the stable internet connection, she was able to generate some income due to the overwhelming demands to develop online gaming from Peninsular Malaysia and China.

She urged the younger generation to grab the opportunities provided by the government to generate more incomes for their families.

“Thanks to the internet, we are able to communicate with outsiders. And we are able to market our local products such as vegetables and crafts to the outside world.

“As far as I am concerned, there are tons of crafts from the community in Long Lama which have received good demands from outside the district,” she added.
