Concert brings multiculturalism to the fore

KUCHING: Harmonious echoes of multiculturalism were brought to life in ‘Music and Words,’ presented by the Sada Kenyalang International Choir Festival and Symposium (SKICF & SKICS) here Saturday.

The concert took place at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

The event attracted the attention of choir enthusiasts from both within Malaysia and abroad, featuring the renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers (The Madz), the first choir in the world to win two European Grand Prix for Choral Singing.

Their performance in Kuching was also their debut appearance in Borneo.

Among the choirs performing, both from within Sarawak and beyond, were Temen Oblak, Oliassa, Paraiso, Laugh Kookaburra, If Music Be the Food of Love, Sayang Sarawak, Tree of Love, The Moon Represents My Heart, Alitaptap, Cikala Le Pong Pong, Da Coconut Nut, The Seal Lullaby, Potong Padi, Hela Rotan, Tak Tak Utai, Dahil Sa Iyo, and Pantun Berkasih Sayang.

Additionally, Jehte Chamber Choir, the main choir founded by KCFCA, along with the Chung Hua Middle School Alumni Choir No. 1, also performed at the concert.

This concert, supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), and endorsed by the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), was part of a larger series of activities running from Nov 15-17.

These include workshops, talks, and public performances at iconic locations around here.

Also present at the event was Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
