
LAWAS: A 35-year-old man was killed after his concrete mixer lorry veered off the road and crashed along Jalan SSLR, near Beriwen here today.
The victim, identified as Tamit Jamal, was trapped in the driver’s seat when the vehicle lost control and skidded into the roadside embankment shortly before midday.
Emergency services were alerted at around 12:00 pm, and a team of eight firefighters from the Lawas Fire and Rescue Department, led by operations commander, PBK I Awang Dani, arrived at the scene at 12:55 pm.
According to Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre, rescuers used hydraulic cutting equipment to prise open the mangled driver’s door before freeing the victim.
However, health officials confirmed he had died at the scene. Police and medical personnel were also on site to assist.
The operation concluded at 1:48 pm once the wreckage was secured.
The body has been handed over to the police for further action.
