KUCHING: River water levels were on an upward trend here today, but conditions around the city area remained under control amid continuous rain.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said monitoring patrols were carried out from 9:00 am to noon as part of ongoing checks during the Northeast Monsoon, particularly in areas identified as flood prone.

The patrols, conducted by a team from the Padungan Station, covered several locations including Jalan Abang Abdul Rahim, the Kwong Lee Bank area, Lumba Kuda, Mendu, Kampung Kudei Lama, Kampung Bintangor, Kuching Waterfront and Padang Merdeka.

Firefighters continued to remain on standby and monitor the surrounding areas due to strong winds and prolonged rainfall.

As of the latest update, no flooding incidents were reported, and no evacuations were required.
