KUCHING: A late-night knock at a condominium along Jalan Stutong cracked open a drug operation, with police seizing nearly 60g of suspected methamphetamine and arresting two local men.

The suspects, aged 44 and 50, were detained after officers from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) raided the residential unit at around 11.35 pm on Monday (Jan 26).

A search led to the discovery of 45 plastic packets of various sizes and colours containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine.

The drugs weighed about 58g in total and were estimated to be worth RM6,380 based on street value.

Preliminary urine screening tests showed that both suspects, who had no prior criminal record, tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment and up to 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

They have been remanded for seven days until Feb 3 to assist with investigations.

He urged those with information on drug crimes to report them via Bukit Aman NCID at 012-2087222 or Sarawak NCID at 017-5929211.
