KUCHING: With improved structure and growing chemistry on the field, Sarawak’s women’s rugby squad is brimming with confidence as they prepare to take on the formidable ATM side in the MSNS-KRS League semi-finals tomorrow (Saturday, June 14) at Padang Astaka.

Head coach, Shahradhi Libiki, said training has been progressing well, with players showing greater commitment and unity in recent sessions.

“This time around, we’ve had more time to focus on our game structure and team chemistry, especially with players based in Kuching and Samarahan, since I’m based in Kuching myself.

“For players from other divisions, they’ve been doing their own fitness and strength training.

“In our first match, we were still figuring out our combinations, particularly since it was our first time playing 15s together,” he told Sarawak Tribune when contacted today.

Now, with four matches under their belt, Shahradhi said the team is more confident and players have settled into their roles.

“We’ve also been working on discipline and decision-making, especially under pressure.

“The mood is definitely more focused and united now.

“When we first started, there was a lot of nervousness and uncertainty which is understandable for a newly formed 15-a-side team,” he said.

As the campaign progressed, he noted, the squad grew stronger and more cohesive, making their semi-final qualification a meaningful achievement.

“We know it won’t be easy against ATM, but the team is ready to fight for it.

“We’ve prepared a game plan, and if our ladies can stick to it and remain disciplined, I truly believe we have a real chance to win.

“ATM is a strong team, and so are we. I believe in our players,” he added.
