SARATOK: Kalaka Assemblyman, Mohamad Duri, has requested the Sarawak Government to consider constructing a connecting road from Kampung Pagan to Kampung Kaba.
He said the proposed road would serve as a vital link to enhance mobility for residents, facilitate the transport of agricultural produce, and improve access to nearby towns and economic hubs.
“Therefore, I urge the Sarawak Government to give due consideration to the construction of this road, which would connect Kampung Pagan to Kampung Kaba and eventually link up with the new Sarawak Expressway,” he said.
He said this at the closing ceremony of the Saratok Festival 2025, held at Sungai Krian Waterfront here today.
The event was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Mohamad said that once constructed, the road would open up greater development opportunities in the surrounding areas, helping to bridge the rural-urban divide.
Earlier, Mohamad highlighted that Saratok is set to undergo major transformation with the completion of the RM91-million Krian Riverfront upgrading project.
“This development will not only become a new landmark for the town but also act as a catalyst for local economic growth.
“With the expected influx of visitors and tourists from both within and outside the region, we anticipate a boost to small businesses, local entrepreneurs, and the service sector,” he said.
Funded by the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), the Saratok Riverfront will offer a comfortable and inclusive recreational space for people from all walks of life.
On this year’s Saratok Festival, Mohamad expressed confidence that it had been a great success.
