KUCHING: The Sarawak Career and Training (SCaT) Fair 2025 is playing a pivotal role in connecting the aspirations of Sarawak’s youth with transformative opportunities within the state’s fast-growing innovation ecosystem.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that from advanced manufacturing and biotechnology to the digital economy and renewable energy, the fair showcases career pathways aligned with the industries of the future.
He also emphasised that the fair is more than just a recruitment event — it is part of a larger strategy to strengthen Sarawak’s human capital and ensure no one is left behind.
“Today, under the vast and promising Sarawak sky, we gather here at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) — not just as participants of a career fair, but as active contributors to Sarawak’s strategic journey in building a strong and sustainable human capital ecosystem.
“This event is part of our deliberate and forward-looking efforts to strengthen Sarawak’s workforce and ensure that our people are well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of the global economy,” he said.
He said this in his text of speech read by Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn during the fair officiating ceremony at BCCK here today.
He also said that global benchmarks such as the Malaysia Human Capital Index introduced by the World Bank in 2018 highlight the urgency of investing in people.
“This index is more than just a number; it is a compass for policymakers, employers, and educators. It signals the direction of our economy and highlights the areas where progress is most needed, particularly in education, health, and job-readiness,” he said.
He added that Sarawak’s future lies in its people.
“For Sarawak, human capital is not merely one resource among many — it is the foundation of our development agenda. It is people equipped with skills, knowledge, and the right mindset who will drive innovation, transform industries, and ensure inclusive growth for generations to come,” he said.
Framing the SCaT Fair as more than a typical career event, Abang Johari said it represents a much larger vision for Sarawak.
“Today is more than just a career and training fair. It’s a call to reimagine education — as a path to dignity, a bridge to opportunity, and a promise that no one, whether in a township or a remote village, is left behind,” he added.
Abang Johari commended MEITD and TEGAS for consistently organising the event, noting that their collaboration with agencies like TalentCorp, PERKESO, and key industry players such as Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS), Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), PETRA Energy Berhad reflects a strong commitment to developing a skilled and future-ready workforce.
