KUCHING: The construction of Citadines Langit Kuching, which is a highly anticipated twin tower development that potentially can redefine Kuching’s hospitality industry, has begun today.

Located in the centre of Kuching, these 28-level towers are being developed by Hock Seng Lee (HSL) in collaboration with international hospitality leader, The Ascott Limited.

Once completed, Tower A will feature 64 luxury condominiums, while Tower B will house 220 serviced apartments under Ascott’s Citadines brand.

At the ground-breaking ceremony also held today, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, welcomed the partnership and praised its significance for the city itself.

“The presence of international hospitality brands such as Ascott plays an essential role in positioning Kuching on the global map,” he said in his speech during the press conference

Not only that, Wee also stated that the construction will set a new benchmark for property and hospitality industries.

“Langit sets a new benchmark, not just for Citadines properties in Malaysia, but for the hospitality industry as a whole,” he added.

Wee also emphasised that Kuching stands among Asia’s most authentic yet underexplored destinations.

“We are confident that your guests will find Kuching to be a city of warmth, character and opportunity,” he said.

In the meantime, Ascott’s Malaysia General Manager, Mondi Mecja, noted that the project holds special importance for the group.

“Langit is a priority project for us. We wanted our own in-house design team to lead the interiors, to really bring out the spirit of Kuching and Sarawak,” he said.

The development of Langit will feature two exclusive “floating” clubhouse floors that will connect the tower at level 4 and 15, and set above a vibrant three-storey public plaza and a two-level basement.

The towers will be designed with contemporise tropical concept, featuring façade screens inspired by Dayak culture and extensive landscaping by renowned Singaporean firm, Salad Dressing, while the public plaza will be anchored with a striking grand staircase and lush greenery.

This is intended to serve as a privately owned but accessible civic space for concerts, children’s activities, and art installations.

Due to that, HSL is also targeting Green Building Index (GBI) certification with sustainable features, such as double-glazed windows, smart building systems and also strategic site orientation, that will maximise natural light while minimising heat exposure.

Furthermore, the project is expected to create over 160 jobs, with around a hundred within the Citadines operation and an estimated 60 in the commercial retail spaces, especially in the food and beverage sector.

The Citadines Langit Kuching development is set to be completed within a four-year timeline.

Sales for the condominiums are expected to begin in late 2026, with prices averaging RM1,000 per square foot for the 64 condominiums.
