SIBU: A housing construction company was fined RM15,000 for employing three illegal immigrants at its site in Jalan Senangin here.
Sessions Court Judge Marutin Pagan imposed a fine of RM5,000 for each of the three illegals employed after its representative pleaded no contest to the charge.
The company was charged with permitting the three Indonesians aged between 26 and 37 to remain at its housing construction site in Seduan Land District.
The offence provides for a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM30,000 or an imprisonment term not exceeding 12 months or both for each illegal immigrant found at the premises.
During the proceedings, the court was told that on Mar 11 at approximately 11.01 am, a team of immigration officers conducted an ‘Ops Bersepadu/Ops Mahir’ at the housing construction site in Jalan Senangin.
During the inspection. it was found that two male Indonesian citizens and one female Indonesian citizen were at the construction site.
All the three were placed under arrest on suspicion of committing an offence under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).
All three were subsequently convicted at the Sessions Court here on Mar 28.
Following Tuesday’s proceedings, the company, which was not represented by counsel, paid the fine.
