KUCHING: The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Sarawak has issued four prohibition notices to a construction company following a workplace accident that claimed the life of a local man last week.
The accident occurred at around 9.05 am on Sept 20 at a construction site in the Muara Tebas Land District along Jalan Stutong.
DOSH Sarawak said the 33-year-old worker was untying wire bindings on scaffolding at the lower section of the building when a crane operator was lifting construction materials to the seventh floor.
During the transfer process, a lintel fell and struck the victim’s head, causing severe injuries.
He was immediately assisted by co-workers before authorities were alerted.
However, he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, and his body was removed at around 1pm.
An investigation team conducted an investigation at the scene and later issued four prohibition notices against the employer.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 for failing to ensure the safety, health and welfare of workers.
Offenders are liable to a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment of up to two years or both.
