BETONG: Construction of the Betong Buddhist Association multi-purpose hall here is now in its final phase and is expected to be fully completed in the near future.

Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said the RM2.25 million project would be equipped with various facilities, including an administrative office, guest room, meeting room and an air-conditioned hall with three badminton courts.

“The construction was funded through continuous government contributions over the past few years via the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) and the Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant, in addition to contributions from corporate bodies and private individuals,” he said.

He said this during a site visit to the project here on Wednesday (Jan 28).

During the visit, the Layar assemblyman also presented a RM500,000 cheque from the Sarawak government for non-Muslim houses of worship through Unifor.

The contribution forms part of phased funding to support the construction of the Betong Buddhist Association Multi-Purpose Hall.

Rentap also held discussions with the management of the Betong Buddhist Association on several matters, particularly those related to construction progress and remaining requirements.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the project was held in 2023, and construction has now reached its final stage.
