MIRI: Continuous heavy rain triggered localised flooding in parts of Miri on Thursday, prompting the Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (APM) to activate monitoring operations in affected residential areas.

APM teams were deployed to two locations in the Piasau and Pujut state constituencies following reports of overflowing drains caused by sustained rainfall.

In Piasau, officers were dispatched to Lorong 6, Krokop 6 after rainwater spilled over roadside drains. By the time the team arrived, floodwaters had already receded and no standing water was detected. The situation was assessed as stable, with no evacuation required.

In a separate incident in Pujut, flooding was reported at Padang Kerbau, where water levels rose to about one foot following overflow from a main drainage channel. With conditions remaining under control, no temporary evacuation centres were activated and no injuries or property damage were reported.

A total of five APM personnel, supported by one emergency response vehicle, were involved in the monitoring operations, which concluded shortly after early afternoon.

Residents in both areas were advised to remain alert to weather developments and to take precautionary measures should rainfall persist.

APM said it would continue to closely monitor weather conditions and flood-prone locations as intermittent rain was expected to continue.

Authorities have assured the public that the situation remains under control and safe.
