SIBU: A 52-year-old contractor working for Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) collapsed and died yesterday (May 7) while on duty at Jalan Paradom/Tanjung Genting in Bintangor.
The victim and his colleagues were assigned to maintain and clean an electrical substation in a forest.
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said police were alerted to the incident at 3.15 pm by the Civil Defence Force (APM).
“Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred during scorching hot weather after the deceased entered and soaked himself in a river near the substation.
“When he came out of the river, he complained of fainting spells and subsequently lost consciousness,” he said in a statement today.
Zulkipli said that the victim was pronounced dead by a Sibu Hospital Medical team at 4.59 pm.
“The body was transferred to the Sibu Hospital mortuary for a post mortem ,” he said.
Police have classified the case as sudden death.
