KAPIT: A three-storey convenience store at Jalan Airport here, was destroyed in a pre-dawn fire today.
The fire, which occurred around 2.20 am, is believed to have started on the ground floor before spreading to the first floor.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Kapit station were dispatched to the scene following an emergency call.
Upon arrival, the team found about 80 per cent of the premises engulfed in flames, and used water from a nearby fire hydrant to extinguish the fire.
Firefighters faced a minor setback during the operation as the entrance was blocked by goods stacked at the entranceway.
The flames were brought under control at 4.12 am, followed by overhaul works to prevent any risk of reignition.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
The firefighters wrapped up the operation at 5 am. The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
