PADAWAN: A 41-year-old cook was killed after the vehicle he was driving veered off the road and overturned into a roadside drain along Jalan Sungai Moyan early this morning.

Padawan police chief Supt Barry William said the accident happened at around 3 am near the junction of Jalan Moyan Segah Lorong 3.

The victim, identified as Jeffery Dion, was driving alone from Pines Square, Batu Kawa towards Kampung Sagah, Jalan Matang.

“Preliminary investigations found that the driver apparently lost control of his Perodua Kenari, causing it to veer onto the right shoulder of the road before spinning and overturning in the drain.

“The impact reportedly flung the driver out of the vehicle and into the roadside drain,” he said.

Jeffery was pronounced dead at the scene by an assistant medical officer from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Barry added that police received information about the accident at around 10.30 am and subsequently sent personnel to the scene to investigate.

The wrecked vehicle was seized for inspection by the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom).

Meanwhile, police are also tracing witnesses who may be able to assist investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
