PERAK: A Sarawak-born police constable was injured after being shot and stabbed by a suspect who was transporting the body of a woman in a vehicle at Simpang Pulai, Ipoh, early this morning.

The 26-year-old constable from Kota Samarahan, who is attached to the Simpang Pulai police station under the Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD), is reported to be in stable condition.

Perak Police Commissioner Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, in a statement, said the victim is receiving treatment at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) in Ipoh.

“At 1.15 am, a patrol team from the Simpang Pulai police station spotted a suspicious-looking car in Taman Desa Pakatan. Attempts to stop the vehicle failed as the suspect sped off, triggering a chase that ended near an oil palm plantation.

“In the course of making the arrest, a struggle ensued between the suspect and the police personnel. During the incident, the constable was shot in the abdomen with his own service pistol, which had been snatched by the suspect.

“The victim was also stabbed before the suspect fled with the firearm,” he said.

Noor Hisam added that further checks on the suspect’s vehicle led to the discovery of a woman’s body, whose identity has yet to be confirmed, in the back seat.

A post-mortem will be conducted at the HRPB Forensic Unit to determine the woman’s identity and cause of death.

He said efforts are being intensified to track down the suspect.

The case is being investigated under Section 302/307 of the Penal Code and Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.

Members of the public with information are urged to contact investigating officer ASP Fadli Ahmad at 012-2500019 to assist in the investigation.
