KUCHING: Sarawak narcotics police arrested three men, two of them foreigners, and seized drugs worth over RM305,000 in separate raids on two entertainment centres in Miri.

Both raids were carried out last Friday (May 19), the first in Jalan Calliandra at 10.45am and the second in Bandar Baru Permyjaya at 1.15pm.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri in a press conference, said the suspects aged between 22 and 34, were working as waiters at the entertainment centres.

“As a result of the raids, the team managed to seize 130 pills of Erimin 5 (36.7g), ketamine (68.4g), 443 pills of Ecstasy (177.4g), Ecstasy mixture juice powder (4.04kg) and Ecstasy powder (1.74kg).

“All of the drugs amounted to an estimate value of RM307,270.

“Investigation found that the suspects’ modus operandi is to obtain drug supplies from a supplier in Miri and sell them to known customers at the entertainment centres,” he said at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) media centre yesterday (May 22).

Background checks found that the foreigners did not have any prior records while the local had one prior record related to drug offence.

Mohd Azman stated all three are being remanded for further investigation until May 26 under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, upon conviction.

In this regard, he encouraged the public to continue channelling information related to the distribution and abusing of drugs through the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) Hotline at 012-2087222.
