SIBU: Police have opened an investigation paper following the circulation of a viral letter reportedly written by a 22-year old woman shortly before her death.
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkifli Suhaili said police received the report on Dec 9, 2025, at about 10 am, after detecting a Facebook post that had gone viral regarding the alleged neglect and mistreatment.
According to the report, the complainant claimed she had been subjected to neglect and abuse since 2013.
“Based on the report received, police have opened an investigation paper and commenced initial investigations, including recording statements from the complainant and other relevant parties to establish the actual facts of the case,” he said in recent statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM50,000, imprisonment for up to 20 years, or both, upon conviction.
Zulkifli stressed that the investigation is being conducted thoroughly, transparently and professionally.
He also advised the public not to speculate or disseminate unverified information that could jeopardise the investigation, particularly given the sensitivity of cases involving children.
