KUCHING: Police have launched an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 following a fatal accident along Jalan Pelabuhan that claimed the life of a front seat passenger.
The accident occurred at around 3.20 am yesterday (Aug 6), involving a Perodua Myvi carrying four individuals, which reportedly lost control and veered off the road.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the victim, a local male in his 20s, sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at 4.21 am by paramedics from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
The female driver in her early 30s, and two other male passengers, in their mid-20s, also sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for further treatment.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.
“If convicted, the offence carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine of up to RM50,000,” he said.

Alexson also reminded motorists to always drive cautiously and adhere to traffic laws to avoid accidents and other unforeseen circumstances.
