SIBU: Cybersecurity is increasingly recognised as a critical issue in today’s society, said Sibu Rural District Council councillor Kevin Lau.
He said that with the continuous advancement of technology, the development of the internet has transformed the way we live, enabling people to connect and communicate globally, conduct research online, and even receive assistance through applications such as ChatGPT, whether for work or for students’ learning.
He said while this convenience is undeniable, many often forget that ill-intentioned individuals can more easily access personal information and news about people falling victim to online scams is all too common.
“Many people have social media accounts, such as Facebook, where they post about their personal lives or showcase their talents.
“If not careful, personal details on these accounts, including identity card numbers, could be misused by scam syndicates, which could put us in serious danger,” he said during the “
‘Madani Community Spirit: Cybersecurity Awareness Talk’ held at SJK(C) Ung Nang today.
The event was organised by Komuniti Madani Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew.
Organising chairman and vice chairman of the Komuniti Madani Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew described the event as a meaningful community initiative aimed at strengthening local ties, promoting information security education, and fostering a more harmonious and caring community.
He added that the content of the talk was highly relevant to everyday life and extremely useful, especially for parents and students.
He expressed his hope that all participants would gain new knowledge from the session and take the opportunity to build stronger relationships, ultimately creating a more united, warm, and harmonious community.
