SIBU: A couple claimed trial at the High Court here today (Dec 9) to a felony charge of trafficking dangerous drugs.
Both Ting Ming Kiet, 35 and Sharon Kong Sue Ting, 28, pleaded not guilty to the joint charge when it was read and explained to them through an interpreter before Justice Wong Siong Tung.
According to the charge sheet, they were indicted on trafficking in dangerous drugs, weighted 1,375 grammes of Methamphetamine in front of a house at Jalan Ulu Sg Merah on Sept 3 at approximately 11.30 am.
Thereby, they had committed an offence under Section 39B(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
Upon conviction, the offence provides for a death penalty or life imprisonment and if not sentenced to death, be punished with whipping of not less than 12 strokes.
Justice Wong set pre-trial case management to Feb 12, 2026 and set trial date from Oct 19 to 23, 2026.
The case was prosecuted by deputy public prosecutor Mark Kenneth Netto while both accused who have yet to be represented by legal counsel, were ordered to be further remanded in prison custody.
