KUCHING: A married couple have been placed under a six-month peace bond after provoking a dispute with the husband’s younger brother over the ownership of a family heirloom house.
Andrew Shim, 70, and Liaw Sap Phin, 57, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to a charge under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
According to the case facts, Andrew initially lodged a police report on March 1, claiming that at around 8.30pm outside the gate of a house in Rock View Estate, his younger brother, Harry Shim, had threatened him by saying, “If you come, I slash you.”
As a result, Harry was arrested on March 3 to assist in the investigation.
However, CCTV footage from the scene later revealed that Andrew and Liaw were the ones who instigated the altercation. The footage showed the couple arriving at the house with a hard object, believed to be a metal-cutting tool.
Andrew was seen aggressively entering the gate area, while Liaw forcefully pushed the gate until it opened.
To prevent further conflict, the court placed both under a six-month peace bond with a bail of RM500 (without deposit) and a local surety.
Andrew and Liaw were unrepresented in court.
