SIBU: The Magistrates’ Court here yesterday granted the police application to extend the remand period of a foreign couple for another seven days to assist in the investigation into the murder of an Indonesian man.

The remand extension order was issued by magistrate Oon Kork Chern after allowing an application from the investigating officer who stated that the investigation was still incomplete and needed more time to be carried out.

Oon ordered the couple to be produced again on July 7.

The two suspects, both in their 30s, were previously remanded for seven days starting on June 24 following their arrest in connection with the case.

The case involved the discovery of a man’s body covered in blood in a garden shed on Jalan Rantau Panjang at around 5.17pm on June 23. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene and did not have valid travel documents.

Initial investigation led to the arrest of the Indonesian couple at Jalan Teku-Pasai Siong on the same day, at around 9.50 pm.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which provides for a mandatory death sentence if convicted.
