TATAU: Two young individuals were killed in a tragic road accident at Kilometre 16 of the Pan Borneo Highway this morning, just before the Semanok Bridge.
District Police Chief, DSP Jame Reis, said the self-involved accident occurred around 7:30 am and involved a van travelling from Tatau towards Bintulu.
“The van lost control and overturned several times. The impact caused both the driver and the passenger to be flung out of the vehicle,” he said in a statement today.

He added that medical personnel from the Tatau Health Clinic later confirmed that both victims, aged 24 and 18, of Chinese descent, passed away at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, anyone with information or who witnessed the accident is encouraged to contact Traffic Investigation Officer, Inspector Jeffery Jimbol, or the Tatau Traffic Department at 086-584615.
Police are also urging the public not to speculate or spread unverified information that could cause unnecessary concern within the community.
