KOTA SAMARAHAN: A petty theft turned dramatic last night (Oct 26) when two men were caught red-handed plucking citrus fruits from an orchard at Jalan Teluk Sabang Cina here.
Kota Samarahan district police headquarters (IPD) said the duo’s attempt to steal the fruits was foiled after alert villagers apprehended them and notified the mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) unit, who was on crime prevention patrols nearby.
Upon receiving the tip-off, the team went to the scene and took custody of the two men, who had been apprehended by the complainant and villagers.
Also seized from them were two sacks filled with citrus fruits and other items believed to be used in the theft.
The suspects and the seized items were taken to Kota Samarahan police station for further action.
Background checks found both suspects had prior records under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
In light of this, Kota Samarahan IPD reminded the public to continue cooperating by reporting any suspicious activities as swift community action often helps prevent crime.
