THE Sarawak government is intensifying efforts to improve cross-border connectivity and reduce congestion at key entry points between Sarawak and Brunei, says Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.

The Minister of Transport said the state is actively implementing initiatives to improve traffic flow and border-crossing efficiency at several Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) complexes.

“These initiatives are critical to addressing persistent congestion issues along the borders, especially between Miri and Limbang Divisions, and improving the overall mobility and transport integration between Sarawak and Brunei,” he told the august House during his winding-up speech today.

He said the Miri Sungai Tujoh ICQS Complex is among the major upgrades, and work is already underway.

The project, which will be completed by December 2025, will see the addition of four new lanes and eight counters.

Once completed, the improvements are expected to streamline traffic flow and reduce long-standing bottlenecks.

“These upgrades are essential in ensuring a more seamless border-crossing experience for travellers and supporting the economic and social linkages between Sarawak and Brunei,” Lee added.
