KUCHING: A Sarawakian woman reported missing in Pontianak, West Kalimantan in Indonesia, was found within two hours after a cross-border motorcycle community stepped in, ending more than two weeks of anxiety for her family here.

The breakthrough came after police reached out to Debelo Bikers Community Borneo, whose members quickly mobilised their network across Indonesia, Sarawak and Brunei to trace the woman, believed to be in her 30s.

She was subsequently located by authorities in Pontianak and safely brought home to Kuching the following day.

Relief swept through her family, who had endured days of fear and uncertainty as hopes of finding her began to fade.

Debelo Bikers Community Borneo’s President, Lisna Listiawati, said the swift coordination between club members and Indonesian authorities was key to the successful operation.

She noted that the club, while known for its motorcycling activities, is also actively involved in community outreach and humanitarian efforts.

“I received a call from a friend, who is also a member of our motorcycle club and serves at the Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD), requesting assistance to track down the woman’s location.

“She was believed to have been taken there by a man and could no longer be contacted after her last call to her family, informing them she was in Pontianak,” she said when met during the Kuching IPD’s 219th Police Day Celebration at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar here on Wednesday.

Lisna said time was critical, and the team focused solely on ensuring the woman’s safety.

Without delay, she activated the club’s network, including contacts within Indonesian law enforcement, to locate the woman.

“In just two hours, we managed to determine the woman’s location. It was all thanks to swift cooperation and strong coordination among all parties,” she said.

For Lisna, the operation underscored the impact of collective effort and community solidarity.

“I feel proud to have helped. Sometimes, even a small effort can have a big impact on someone’s life,” she said.
