KUCHING: A total of 42 staff from the Sports and Recreation Club of the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak (Kesuria), together with Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd Club (Northern, Central & Southern Region), held a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme at the Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah Children’s Home last Saturday (Sept 27).

In a statement by the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) issued on Monday (Sept 29), the CSR Programme aimed to foster closer ties, spread love and care, strengthen relationships and provide moral support and essential contributions to the residents of the home.

“The programme also sought to raise awareness of the lives and needs of the children there.

“Activities carried out during the CSR Programme included repairing damaged pipes and sports equipment, an anti-vandalism talk accompanied by a pop quiz, an anti-vandalism colouring competition for different children’s age categories, as well as the handover of essential goods and sports equipment.”

Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah Children’s Home deputy principal Dayangku Zaheeda Awangku Mashor said this was the first CSR initiative to include pipe repair works, something not previously undertaken by other visiting groups.

The event also featured a “Let’s Zumba” session led by instructor KBSI Boy Fairuz, which livened up the atmosphere before the official start, while 74 children, aged between three and 17, participated in the anti-vandalism talk delivered by Roslelawati Mohd Amin.

Besides, a colouring competition for three age categories—under six, seven to 12 and 13 to 17—saw winners receiving prizes from the home’s principal, Fazila Sulaili.

The programme, which ran from 8am to 1pm, ended on a high note with participants expressing joy at being able to contribute and bring cheer to the children.

The Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah Children’s Home, built in 2002 on a 9.83-hectare site, has been gazetted as a place of safety for children under 18 who require care and protection.
