CSR initiative benefits communities affected by sand, quarry activities

SEMATAN: Companies involved in sand and quarry material extraction have been contributing to communities impacted by their activities, thanks to a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative introduced by the state government.

Aiming to provide financial aid to affected communities the initiative implemented under the LANDAS Gives Back CSR Programme has been spearheaded by the Land and Survey Department since 2022.

At the beginning of this year, a sum of RM127,600 was set aside for distribution to selected beneficiaries.

Among the beneficiaries are the Persatuan Nelayan Kawasan (PNK) Sematan/Lundu, Surau Nurul Islam in Kampung Tanah Hitam, Surau An-Nur in Kampung Trusan Jaya, Masjid Darul Iman in Kampung Tembaga Melayu in Sematan, SMK Paku and SJKC Chung Hua Paku in Bau.

The cheque presentation at Roxy Beach Resort here on Tuesday (Feb 25) was officiated by Sarawak Land and Survey Department Director, Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood.

The funds for this initiative were contributed through CSR donations from licensed sand extraction and quarry material transfer operators in the Lundu and Sematan areas.

Through initiatives like the LANDAS Gives Back CSR Programme, the government continues to strengthen community well-being while promoting sustainable and responsible development in Sarawak.

Also in attendance were Deputy Director of Management Rozlan Putit; Deputy Director of Operations Norlina Ra’ee; Head of the Enforcement Division Thian Choon Kui; Chief Executive Officer of Magna Focus Sdn Bhd Ahmad Daud Manan; and Chairman of Koperasi Judin Sematan Lundu Berhad, Terrance Anjiu.
