KUCHING: The Congress of Union of Employess in the Public and Civil Services Malaysia (CUEPACS) Sarawak launched its annual ‘Ihya Ramadan Bubur Pedas’ programme here today.
The initiative, officiated by Sarawak Deputy Federal Secretary, Mohamad Anuardi Hajani, aims to foster social harmony while preserving the State’s rich cultural heritage.
Organised during the holy month of Ramadan, the programme unites civil servants, community leaders and volunteers to prepare and distribute ‘bubur pedas’.
This year, it embraced a more traditional approach, with participants preparing the dish from morning before distributing it in the evening, unlike last year when ready-made ‘bubur pedas’ was served.
“This programme plays a key role in strengthening unity,” said Anuardi.

“By working together through charitable activities like this, we can bridge gaps and create a harmonious society,” he added.
He aso emphasised that such initiatives reinforce public confidence in government institutions and highlight the role of civil servants in fostering community engagement.
A total of 300 packages of ‘bubur pedas’ were prepared by 50 volunteers, including students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).
CUEPACS Sarawak Chairman, Jubilee Jineh, also emphasised the importance of community-driven initiatives in promoting social responsibility and volunteerism.
“The preparation of ‘bubur pedas’ has long been a symbol of togetherness among Sarawakians, transcending ethnic and religious differences,” he said.

He highlighted that communal activities such as preparing and distributing ‘bubur pedas’ to the underprivileged reflect core values of empathy, mutual assistance and social responsibility.
“When we work together, we strengthen our bonds and enrich our shared values in daily life,” he said.
Jubilee expressed hope that the ‘Bubur Pedas Ramadan’ Programme would continue to serve as a platform for fostering generosity and inclusivity, ensuring that Sarawak’s cultural traditions remain vibrant while uniting communities in the spirit of Ramadan.
