MIRI: A foreign national has been charged at the Magistrate’s Court here following an incident involving an alleged death threat at a money exchange outlet.

Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said police received a report from a local complainant who alleged they had been threatened after a dispute over a rejected currency exchange transaction at the Ime Money Exchange premises in Bintang Mega Mall, here.

“The suspect expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the transaction and subsequently made threats towards the complainant,” Mohd Farhan said.

Following the incident, the complainant filed a police report at the Miri Central Police Station. The suspect later surrendered voluntarily at the station, where he was arrested.

Investigations were launched under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, for the offence of criminal intimidation.

Police secured a four-day remand order from the Miri Court to assist with further inquiries. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the suspect was brought before Magistrate Sandy Yvette Freddy yesterday (April 28) for the formal reading of the charge.
