MIRI: Curtin University Malaysia has taken a bold step in cultivating entrepreneurial talent with the launch of the Avantpreneur Business Lab, a work-integrated learning programme designed to provide students with hands-on business experience.

A collaboration between Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business and Avantsar Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Sarawak Oil Palms Bhd, the initiative aims to equip students with essential entrepreneurial skills through real-world business operations.

Under the programme, students work in rotating teams to market and sell Avant Health skincare products within the Curtin community.

Beyond sales and marketing, they will also develop teamwork, business acumen, and customer engagement skills, key competencies that will give them an edge in the competitive job market.

Speaking at the launch, held at Curtin campus today, Professor Pauline Ho, dean of the Faculty of Business, described the Avantpreneur Business Lab as a transformative initiative for students.

“This programme is a game-changer, allowing students to experience first-hand what it takes to run a business while equipping them with crucial entrepreneurial skills.

“It aligns perfectly with our commitment to producing industry-ready graduates,” she said.

A key highlight of the event was a talk by Dr Sherlyn Lim, general manager of Avantsar Sdn Bhd, titled ‘Tocotrienols: The Special Vitamin E from Palm Oil’.

She provided insights into the benefits and market potential of palm oil-based skincare products, inspiring students to explore business opportunities in the sector.

The launch event was attended by key industry and academic figures, including Sharon Chong, chief operating officer of Curtin Malaysia, Professor Pauline Ho, dean of the Faculty of Business, and Tho Kheng Chiang, chief finance officer and head of plantation at Sarawak Oil Palms Bhd.
