MIRI: Dr Lynn Ling Yew Hua from Curtin University Malaysia has joined a national roundtable to help shape the future of digitalisation for Malaysia’s small businesses.
Held in Kuala Lumpur and hosted by the Khazanah Research Institute (KRI), the MSME Digitalisation Roundtable 2025 brought together leading policymakers, industry experts and academics to discuss the digital transformation of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) , a sector widely seen as the backbone of the nation’s economy.
Dr Ling, a lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the Miri-based Curtin Malaysia, was among a select group invited to share insights on digital readiness and innovation in the MSME space.
Drawing on her research and fieldwork in digital adoption among small enterprises, she spoke on how technology can enable more inclusive and resilient growth, particularly in underserved regions like Sarawak.
“Digitalisation isn’t just about technology , it’s about building a more connected and equitable future for all businesses, regardless of size or location,” said Dr Ling.
“It was an honour to contribute to such an important national conversation on behalf of Curtin Malaysia.”
The event opened with remarks from Dr Rachel Gong, Deputy Director of Research at KRI, and featured a keynote by Azfar Asa’ad, Senior Adviser of CPA Australia.
Discussions revolved around persistent barriers to digital adoption, gaps in digital literacy and infrastructure, and what policymakers can do to support the shift.
Dr Ling’s involvement reflects Curtin Malaysia’s broader mission to foster innovation and knowledge-sharing through research, partnerships and community engagement.
The university continues to position itself as a regional hub for digital and economic advancement, particularly through its academic-industry collaborations.
Curtin Malaysia is the largest international campus of Australia’s Curtin University, and plays an active role in supporting both Sarawak’s and Malaysia’s development goals.
