KUALA LUMPUR: Electric vehicle owners in Malaysia will soon be able to skip the charging station, as Mercedes-Benz and Power-Up (P.UP) roll out a mobile service that delivers power directly to their cars.

The MB Platinum 5 plan, available to Mercedes-Benz EQ customers, offers fast charging of up to 120kWh at any chosen location, bundled with car grooming and emergency roadside assistance.

The service was first piloted in Penang in September 2024 and has since expanded to the Klang Valley with three charging vans.

It is scheduled to launch in Johor Bahru early next year before reaching other parts of Peninsular Malaysia by late 2026.

As Mercedes-Benz Malaysia progresses towards advancing electric mobility in Malaysia, its vice president of customer services for Malaysia and SEA II, Edmin Naidoo, said that the company is committed to enhancing the overall ownership experience for its EV customers.

“The collaboration with P.UP exemplifies our vision to provide not just cutting-edge vehicles, but also comprehensive service solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers, while contributing to the national EV goals of expanding charging accessibility. “

By introducing this mobile charging solution, we are making EV ownership more seamless and reducing barriers for customers wherever they are,” he said.

Meanwhile, P.UP chief executive officer SM Fauzi SM Shalahuddin said response so far had been overwhelmingly positive and confirmed plans to expand coverage nationwide.

“This expansion aligns with P.UP’s vision of solving key pain points faced by EV owners, ensuring that convenient charging solutions are accessible across Malaysia,” he said.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia further said that subscribers to the MB Platinum 5 plan receive five mobile charging sessions a month, each capped at 80 per cent stateof-charge, along with car wash, vacuuming, tyre shine, and waivers on service and parking fees.

“Customers book through the P.UP mobile app, with deployment to homes, workplaces, or other destinations,” it said.
